The Erasmian European Youth Parliament Rotterdam 2009

The EEYP Rotterdam 2009 stands for a big Erasmian European Youth Parliament to be held coming February, 9th - 15th. The project is incorporated in and partially sponsored by the Your World Program, as Your Hometown, which is the responsible organisation for Rotterdam European Youth Capital 2009. For more information visit www.your09.nl. Moreover the project can be seen as an awareness programme against the background of the European Parliament elections in 2009.

During this week two hundred sixteen- to eighteen-year-old students from fifteen different countries will discuss intercultural, social, economic, educational, governmental, environmental etc. problems in European big cities. Approximately two hundred and twenty students will be involved in the project. They will simulate the working methods of the European Parliament. Because most of the European citizens live in cities nowadays, finding solutions to 'big-city problems' is an important and challenging issue. In our opinion young people can also relate to these problems and they are very capable of finding realistic solutions without being already committed to political ideologies.

A vital part of the project is the direct communication with senior company directors and politicians. We mention the "dynamic duo"-system (students linked to a professional), visits to Dutch professional organisations and a 'meet the boss' conference.

The project will be opened by the Minister of Youth and Family, mr. A. Rouvoet. The results of the EEYP Rotterdam 2009 will be concrete and adequate resolutions that can find their way to European local governments in the cities of the students. The mayor of Rotterdam, mr. A. Aboutaleb and some national/European politicians will be present for their presentation.

The EEYP Rotterdam project will be continued in Turino, the European Youth Capital of 2010.
